Work Visas

Portugal

There are different work visas applicable in Portugal. These are ideally granted while you are still in Brazil and allow you to enter Portuguese territory legally.

The most used work visas are:

1. Residence Visa to carry out subordinate activities:

It is aimed at citizens whose employment contract is valid for a period of more than 9 months under a subordinate regime, that is, the worker must belong to the contracting company, regardless of the area in which they will work.

2. Residence Visa for highly qualified activity:

Carried out by a subordinate worker (Tech Visa): intended for highly qualified citizens whose employment contract is valid for a period of more than one year under a subordinate regime. It mainly covers workers in the technology sector, and may include other areas.

3. Residence Visa for carrying out independent professional activity:

This visa is intended for citizens whose contract is valid for a period of more than 9 months under a service provision regime, that is, the worker will not belong to the contracting company's staff, thus carrying out an independent professional activity.

4. Residence Visa for family reunification purposes:

It is aimed at family members (spouse, children up to 24 years of age, legal dependents, etc.) of holders of a residence visa in Portugal. Visas for obtaining residence issued in the passport last for 120 days, during which you must enter Portuguese territory. This visa allows you two entries into Portugal, which means you can enter, leave and re-enter the country.

These entries must be made through a controlled border (airport) or, otherwise, you have three days to declare this entry with AIMA (Agency for integration, migration and asylum) or a police post.

As a rule, when visas are issued to obtain residence, the appointment at AIMA to obtain the Residence Permit is registered in the passport. If this does not happen, you have 30 days to make this appointment on the AIMA portal. If your appointment at AIMA is after the 120 days of validity of your visa, it remains valid, but you will have to remain in Portugal until the date of your appointment.
